(In other words: when does trash stop being junk and turn into something we can incorporate into our daily lives, and why haven’t we done it until now?)

Garbage is our creation. We create it at every moment. a substance that was a usable material now becomes garbage, and it piles up, it’s present, and it becomes a testimony of our lives and actions, a silent symbol.

The exhibition White Trash comes to raise a question about this symbol, to change the way we look at it/ The focal point of White Trash is to take a dirty, filthy thing and turn it into something clean, whether it’s through re-using it, recycling it, or in our case, turning it into art.

. Here is where we begin the search for original alternative solutions regarding the usage of the substance in our immediate environment that is there in our peripheral vision and we are constantly ignoring. By bringing the junk into the artistic realm, the substance will become “whitened”, legitimate, possible, and it’s original role will change from being something of no use into art.

The concept for the exhibition was initiated and curated by three artists, Amanda Mehl, Shameless, and Inbal Limor. The ecological emphasis is present in the work themselves and in the DIY thought behind it. Hand made, recycled flyers and interactive installations which include human generated energy. All the artists participating will be re-using objects found in their surroundings.

Tel-Aviv well known artist Know Hope has his largest and most detailed indoor installation opening on Thursday June 4th at The Carmichael Gallery in L.A. Incorporating 30,000 paper raindrops. 40,000 feet of fishing twine. 2,500 fishing weights. Hundreds of sheets of cardboard fashioned into miniature works of art and a crowd of life-size cut-out characters.

Know Hope has inserted his own mini-paper, The Anytimes,into various publications in news boxes and stands on the streets of Los Angeles. The Anytimes is a special work of art featuring poetry, ponderings,and classic imagery by one of Israel's most important young contemporary voices.Not many copies of The Anytimes exist, however, and no one except Know Hope knows exactly where they have been placed, so be sure to spread the word about this exciting project. You'll need to run to the newsstand yourself to make sure you get one!

Here, for more than 60 years, the bloody struggle of two nations in the Middle East hasn't stopped. Two nations fiercely try to exterminate each other under gallant patriotic exclamations and slogans, while puppeteers and ideologists of the destructive conflict stand and watch. With the help of their nearest colleague, Judaic religious institutes, the puppet government of Israel has transformed the Israeli society into "ideal citizens". A herd, piously trusting in the authenticity of the authorities, regularly serving in army and absolutely incapable of any display of collective protest. For more than 60 years almost the same people have operated the state, being guided by personal and corporate motives. Watering societies brains with various patriotic crap, they have provided the firmness and certainty of their power. These people have no relation either to belief in anything good nor to the people of Israel. Their interests are the interests of the international banks and the corporations supervising the manufacture and traffic in arms and mineral oil. The Israeli conflict is the excellent lever of pressure upon the countries exporters of oil, and as ideal range for tests of the new weapon.
But the Israel citizens do not see and do not wish to see. They're brainwashed by mass-media, made afraid of war and acts of terrorism, bound by incessant economic chains of Israeli economic debt. Bent under oppression of credits and the taxes, intimidated by crap from TV and newspapers of the authorities, angered by nationalist party propaganda and blinded by religious nonsense, the citizens of Israel have lost their ability to think critically.

Israel is a police state with an extremely high level of control.

Organization BLACK BLOCK Israel sets it's purpose to be the awakening of the sleeping consciousness of Israeli society and carrying out actions which are directed towards awakening of a spark within the public protest. First of all, it is necessary to co-ordinate an united front for the protest, which will include events and the good will organizations of Israel. Not so long ago, local artist Yochai Matos installed his work on Rothschild Street: a big pixelized heart laid out with ceramic tile. The next day workers from the city had already ripped it off with a pick and shovel, leaving a dirty fragment stain. Unfortunately, there are similar examples of nonsense and barbarous thinking coming from the city's authorities in Israel. Many interesting and useful projects have been abandoned because of the Israeli stupid tradition of local authorities trying to stop any individual's initiative. Legends are told about this tradition, but in the near future nothing will change. The Israeli citizens remain one of the most brainwashed on the planet, so it is possible only to dream about some expressions of the collective protest.

Find My Children . One portrait story.

I only noticed the text after I had already photographed this portrait. I have to admit that I stood in confusion for some time without knowing how to react. The reference to the person with the camera struck me immediately. Who is asking me for help? How can I help? I don't even know how to find them, this anonymous person who is asking for help. All these thoughts with a cold whirlwind have burnt my consciousness. It is necessary to urgently do something: go somewhere for help, tell friends, to make others aware... Dreamily I have come back home and have reflected: If the author really counted on help from a street stencil, he should leave some sort of contact information. Is this someone's very mean device for attracting attention? I don't know what to think till now. Is there anyone reading who knows a little bit of history on this piece?

Florentine's safari of graffiti characters has a new addition: a violet cactus with a whole brood of kids! Maybe we woke them up too early...The newly awoken creatures awkwardly yawned and discontentedly covered their eyes while we photographed them.

It seems someone doesn't have enough existing lanes and he has decided to construct one more street for the public in Florentine. Virtually.
When we saw the "Fame lane", we were delighted at it's masterfully executed effect of it's 3D effect. From afar it seemed possible to enter there... To the right of this city scene is a work still in progress, waiting for the artist to return... I think one night soon we will hunt for the artist.

Making daily tour, while out hunting for new graffiti, ViXEN and I saw an amusing situation. Some jokers had poured a canister of liquid soap in a city fountain. Being shaken up by water jets, the foam flowed over the banks and began to run into the street.

Snow-white clouds densely closed within a watery surface which made the impression that a small cloud had gone down to the fountain to have a drink. The froth of the foam was so thick that it could support a full pack of cigarettes.
Unfortunately, this unusual scene was not noticed by the area's sleepy inhabitants...only one young Thai girl with a child came to touch a soapy miracle.

The Jerusalem Artists’ House is delighted to present “Befriend Your Demon,” a selection of haunting images of Tel Aviv street art by noted Jerusalem-based photographer Leora Cheshin. The cracked and crumbling walls, weather-beaten doors and windswept alleyways in Tel Aviv’s varied neighborhoods have become the main canvas for an eclectic group of mostly immigrant artists. Working individually and in crews with stencils, spray paint, markers and paste-ups, they have transformed the landscape of their adopted city. On exhibition 2 may through 6 June, 2009.
In “Befriend Your Demon” photographer Leora Cheshin captures these images with a mastery of composition and balance. She creates an ambiance that exudes a sense of impending catastrophe with undercurrents of death, dislocation and decay. Lurking monsters and contorted cryptic figures portend a frightening, uncertain future. Just about everything is askew and appears to be off-balance. Anxiety is ever-present as the strong prey upon the weak. The boundaries between man and animal are increasingly blurred. There is fear of imminent war, looming violence and religious coercion as internal and external inequalities and tensions increase.

And yet for all the despair, there is beauty, life and wit in this world of contradictions. Hope mixes with sore doubt. Cheshin’s poignantly haunting photographs in “Befriend Your Demon” rescue these ephemeral images from oblivion. With passion, irony and a sensitive eye, Cheshin skillfully records the cacophonous echoes of found art on these crumbling walls as she transmutes them into artworks charged with visual and psychological intrigue.

Curated by Lois Stavsky, the exhibit opens on Saturday, May 2nd at 12 noon and continues through June 6th 2009. A gallery talk featuring Leora Cheshin, Lois Stavsky and Ame72 will take place on Saturday, May 23rd at 12 noon. The Jerusalem Artists’ House is situated in a historic building on 12 Shmuel Hanagid Street. Gallery hours are: Sunday–Thursday: 10:00 am–1:00 pm, 4:00 pm–7:00 pm and Friday: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm and Saturday: 11:00 am–2:00 pm.

Artists Bar and Shay took it upon themselves to do a bit of street redecorating in a Tel Aviv underground tunnel. The crew replaced the regular, drab lighting with a rainbow of assorted colors.
Bar & Shay said their street art muse was Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.

Jugo de Limón by Lazaro Godoy

To succeed, a work of solo dance has move the audience on many levels. We have to be awed by the capabilities of the dancer’s body, touched by the emotions the work conveys, and challenged by the intellectual puzzle the choreographer has given us to solve as we interpret the dance. Lazaro Godoy’s Jugo de Limón works on all of these levels. Godoy is a brilliant dancer with superb control, and he has created a dance that speaks to us about control: the dancer’s control over his body, the choreographer’s control over his material. This is a piece in which freedom of movement, free will, and emotional freedom are all put to the test. Is the dancer free? Are we? That’s a question we in the audience have to answer for ourselves...

King Cano - Human Drum Machine

King Cano Hurricane Kwa-Zulu is the team's human drum machine and MC. He is a beatboxer, lyricist, reggaeman and poet. For the last 18 years he's been traveling around the world and making music. We first met him at a Rainbow Gathering in 2008 in the Arava Desert , where he organized a workshop about costume jewelery. King was beatboxing while braiding bracelets. ViXEN had been given one by him. Then we met him second time in Tel-Aviv, close to the Karmel market, singing and beatboxing. The third time we met... we made some music together.

Brilliance In The Dust (TLV Masters of Art)

In a narrow lane in Florentine, in spacious modest studio lives a nice guy with good energy named Rani. Rani: the stencils master! We found his studio while walking around, looking for art supplies: desks and surfaces that we can reuse. Having been so deeply impressed with his works, we asked him if we could see more of his work, maybe on internet or even an exhibition somewhere.

That was a fckn surprise!

Rani, just 12 years practicing his amazing art, but never has shown his work anywhere. He told us that he started making art when he was just 12 years old in Jerusalem. He never thought about making his works known to the public, other than one gallery show in 12 years. He did, however, express that he would be glad if somebody will do it. As for him, stencils are simply the way he chooses to express himself and inspire others. We spoke a lot and found many ways to collaborate! (Inspire Collective will be pitching in to put together some great workshops!)
